How to memorise Juz Amma with your child

Published 26 September 2026 · Rahber Institute teaching team

In short

Start with the shortest surahs at the end of Juz Amma, learn a few lines at a time, and recite them in salah. Most children find this a great first step before full Hifz.

  • Start from the shortest surahs.
  • Learn a few lines at a time.
  • Use new surahs in daily salah.

Suggested order

  • Al-Fatiha
  • An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas
  • Al-Masad, An-Nasr, Al-Kafirun
  • Al-Kawthar, Al-Ma'un, Quraysh
  • Then work backwards through the juz

A simple method

  • Listen to the surah recited several times
  • Repeat one ayah until smooth
  • Join it with the ayah before
  • Recite the whole surah to a parent at night

Getting pronunciation right

Memorising with mistakes is hard to fix later. A teacher checks each surah so your child learns it correctly from the start.

Parents also ask

Can my child memorise before reading fluently?

Young children can memorise short surahs by listening, but a teacher should check pronunciation. Full Hifz is easier once they read fluently.
