How should I practise Quran reading at home?

Last updated 25 September 2026 · Rahber Institute teaching team

Short answer

Practise Quran reading for 15–20 minutes a day: spend the first few minutes revising what you read yesterday, then read a small new portion aloud slowly, then listen to a reciter reading the same passage. Once a week, read to a teacher for correction.

Pick a fixed time

Attach practice to something that already happens — after Fajr, after school or after Maghrib.

Use one mushaf

Reading from the same printed layout helps visual memory, especially if you later start Hifz.

Track it

  • Note the page and date each day
  • Mark mistakes lightly in pencil
  • Re-read marked lines the next day

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to read a lot once a week or a little daily?

A little daily. Short, consistent sessions improve fluency and retention far more.

Which mushaf should I use?

Use whichever script your teacher uses — many UK families use the Indo-Pak script; others use the Uthmani (Madani) script.
