Moved to the UK? How to continue your child's dugsi or madrasa learning

Published 28 September 2026 · Rahber Institute teaching team

In short

Start with an assessment so the teacher begins from your child's real level, not from zero. Then set a steady schedule around school so memorised surahs are not lost during the move.

  • Book a trial so a teacher can check reading and memorisation.
  • Protect revision first, then add new lessons.
  • Expect a settling-in period after starting UK school.

Why progress slips after a move

New school, new language and new routines often push Quran aside for months. Memorised parts fade fastest without revision.

Steps to restart

  • Write down what your child has memorised
  • Book a free trial class for a level check
  • Choose 5 days a week for Hifz, or 2 days to rebuild reading
  • Start with revision before new memorisation

Reading vs memorising

Some children memorise well but read slowly from the mushaf. A teacher can strengthen reading with Tajweed alongside Hifz.

Do you follow the Hafs recitation?

Yes, lessons use Hafs 'an 'Asim. If your child learned Warsh, message us on WhatsApp first so we can tell you honestly what's possible.
